After I made all the bedding for my first child's nursery, I swore next time I would just buy. Well, it is the second time around and once again I am sewing away. I just love all the fun fabrics you can find and hate being limited to the store's selection that never seem to fit in my design scheme.
I am crazy about this Bella Yellow Stripe material designed by Lotta Jansdotter. It was $8.98 a yard at Fabric.com. The name calls it yellow, but it has a hint of lime green to it and really should be called chartreuse.
Making the Crib Bumper
Step 1-Create two strips of material. The pad itself is 168 x 8 inches, so I made mine 169 x 9
inches to allow for 1/2 inch seams
Step 2-Pin right sides together and sew bottom and sides
Step 3-Flip inside out and you now have your envelope to stuff
Step 4-Stuff
Step 5-Pin and sew across top. I sewed about a 1/4 inch from the edge
Step 6-Pin double fold bias tape over seam and sew (you could probably combine Steps 5 and 6 but I
do it that way for stability)

Attaching Bumper to Crib
If your crib has slats to tie all the way around then just line your bumper around the crib and mark the places to sew with a pin and sew the bias tape to bumper. An easy right over left, left over right will create the simple tie as shown in Step 4.
My IKEA Sundvik crib was the style I wanted and cheap, so I was willing to add some steps to the process.
1-Buy sticky velcro to attach the crib bumper to the flat parts of the crib
2-Place hook side (scratchy side) to crib and place loop side on top
3-Remove plastic covering loop side, add some fabric glue and firmly press fabric to velcro. The
adhesive velcro is very sticky and works great on most surfaces besides fabric.
Buy or Sew...What's your preference with nursery bedding?
