CLOSED: Better Homes and Gardens "Guest Ready for Less" $100 Wal-Mart Giveaway!

This time of year is one of my favorites. I love it when the chill Fall air breezes through my home, the trees begin to change and pumpkins are everywhere. After a long, hot summer, Fall always seems refreshing to me. It is also a time when I feel antsy to switch up my home decor. This year, Better Homes and Gardens contacted me to do a "Guest-Ready for Less" makeover on my guest bedroom. However, because I don't have a guest bedroom, my gracious friend and neighbor, Candice, offered her guest room for a facelift.

Candice told me that this room was cobbled together quickly to host guests a few months ago and she really hasn't had the time to do anything else to it.

The Better Homes and Gardens line at Wal-Mart came to the rescue with a complete bed-in-a-bag: sheets, two pillow cases, bed skirt, comforter, two shams and four decorative pillows for $80.

When the items arrived we were SO impressed with the quality and gorgeous colors- way better than we expected for such an awesome price.

The BHG line at Wal-Mart also has home decor items for most rooms. The three wall hangings were also purchased from their collection. We added a few books from Candice's book shelves, a plant that wasn't on display and two bedside lamps she already had. What an amazing transformation for under $100!

Candice is so happy with her new room and that makes ME happy!

Do you have a guest bedroom that could seriously use a little love? Better Homes and Gardens is giving away a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart to one lucky How-To Gal reader!!

Here's how you enter:

  1. Leave a comment telling me how you would spruce up a room in your house with the gift card.
  2. Extra entry if you visit the BHG Live Better Facebook page, Like them and leave a comment saying The How-To Gal sent you!

I will choose the winner one week from today, October 10th. Good Luck!

  1. I love the transformation, it is beautiful! Even more so considering the cost. We don't have a guest bedroom at the moment, but if I had the gift card, I would use it to buy a bed in a bag for our master bedroom. In all the years we've been married, we've never had a nice matching bed set, and I would love to make the room feel a little more pulled together and looking nice. :)

  2. Wow, awesome! The new room looks great!
I really do need new bedding for our bedroom, which has been entirely neglected since we moved in.
With the other $20 left over, I would definitely buy a reading lamp, maybe a box of pancake mix, so my man can bring me breakfast in bed. haha :)

  3. We just moved into a new place and are new to having a guest room. Ours right now is a crazy mix of failed design elements of other rooms. I would love to create some harmony and consistency so we have as many friends and family come visit us in our new place as possible!

  4. I would get a new comforter and cases, and hang some art on the walls. Great giveaway!

  5. we're switching rooms to give our son and baby-to-be the bigger room, so I would love this to actually decorate our "new" teeny tiny master!

  6. My bedroom has a new bedding set but the walls are ridiculously bare! I'd use the gift card for a headboard or wall hangings.

  7. Only ONE room that needs some help??? I suppose I'd fight to narrow it down!

I'd use the girls' room...its got mismatched furniture...two girls thrown together! I'd love to be able to finish their room 'guilt free' and make it something that excited both of them about the prosepcts of being roommates! :)

  8. The room looks great. I don't have a guest room but I do have 5 bedrooms that could so use a makeover. If I was to win we would be able to do at least one. Probally the my 2 little girls that share. I would love to go in there and have things that coordinate instead of thrown together.

  11. That transformation looks SO good! I'm impressed. I love changing up decorations. I could REALLY use this. My bedroom is looking very sad these days... Seems like I decorate every other room but just skip mine because it's too daunting. All it needs really is a new bed spread. And something above the bed. I am sure that BHG bed in a bag will be able to help me out there!

  12. I can't believe it is the same room! Beautiful.
My Bathroom needs a face lift. New accents, rugs and towels, and maybe a coat of paint!

  15. For my master bedroom I'd get comforters in bold print colors with muted bed sheets and bed skirt and add printed window shades behind the bed as the "head board".

  17. Great job on the transformation!
How would I use the gift card? Where do I start?!
I moved about 9 months ago, and besides my dining table, my dining room is completely barren. My walls are bare, the place is empty! I would love some things to add to the room to beautify it and add some color.

  18. I would most likely buy a new comforter! I put our comforter in the washer on extra heavy this weekend and the washer put a rip in it and singed the corner :-/ I guess the extra heavy option should not be used...live and learn!

  23. I'm so impressed with the $100 transformation!! I just bought paint for my bedroom and am planning on painting this week...I would use the giftcard for an AWESOME bed in a bag for my very own DIY transformation!

  24. I would probably use it for both our bedroom (which needs paint and bed linens) as well as the bathroom (mostly towels). Thanks!

  25. I would definitely use it for our master bedroom. I would use it to buy a bed set and some art for above the bed. I really only have one wall to work with in our small room because two walls are taken up with big windows and the other wall is our closet with glass doors. Our room looks really sad and because we are "starving students" we still have the same sheets and comforter we got from our wedding 5 years ago. Pretty sad I know. But I would definitely take advantage of the gift card to do a simple remodel to what right now is a very boring room.

  26. My husband and I have been married a little over a year and we just moved for him to pursue Seminary coursework. I would totally love a gift card to be able to give my husband a home office! That way he has his space and I have mine since the rest of the apartment won't cluttered with his books :)

  27. We just moved from NY to Guam for military orders. Our walls are cream and boring! I would love to spruce up all of our bedrooms with color, fabric and life. We don't have a local WalMart here, so I would have to shop online. All our rooms are small as we live in Navy Housing and can't paint, but I want to add color and texture with bold accents and art! Thank you in advance for this opportunity!

  30. I would redo my bathroom decor! Ive been in an apt for 6 months now and im still only using a shower liner since I haven't found the perfect shower curtain that goes with my existing towels. If I won the gift card I could find the perfect shower curtain and accessorize around that without breaking the budget!

  41. Really like how your room turned out. I know exactly what I'd do for my guest room. I'd start by adding the red and gold flannel sheets I saw just this weekend at the WM, then I'd add a nice cozy electric plush blanket for added warmth. I'd also add a grouping of frames on the wall filled with travel related momentos.

  42. I would use it to finish decorating my guest bedroom. Thanks for the chance!

  43. That looks great! I would use it to help decorate my front room. I'm working on turning it into a music room but it is slow going.

  45. I would love to redecorate my bathroom with the gift card. I love how everything matches and I don't have to think about colors or styles when I use all BHG products. I know my guests would appreciate this much more than the current Princess decorations. ;)

  50. I would love to make our bedroom up with new bedding or anything really. It could REALLY use a makeover. We have nothing but a bed with no headboard, and a plain ugly dresser. No night stands, lamps, decorations. Other rooms have taken precedent over our master bedroom.

  51. Nice job! I would use the money to buy curtain rods, some artwork, and paint for our guest bedroom.

  54. My whole decor needs to be redone. Everything we currently have is from our wedding almost 7 years ago. I dream of bath towels that aren't matted down and new throw pillows that haven't been drooled on by a napping toddler.

  55. Wow, the result looks like a magazine page! Wonderful.

My son has been begging for a room make over for a few months now...HIS would be the room I would do over!

  59. What a beautiful transformation...if I won the card I would finally be able to redo our master bedroom. My kids have the cutest rooms but our room has been sadly neglected. :( We could really use to pretty it up and make it a master suite we could enjoy. :)
