Easy way to personalize your blog

Who doesn't want to have a blog that when people stop by they stay simply because of the curb appeal? With about an hour to spare and a little creativity, you too can have the blog of your dreams. Let's get started!

Step 1:
Find an image for your background. Make sure the image is not copyrighted! Here are some links for (usually) free images.
  • Google Images- remember to set the search function to extra large images, then search for something that you like. Examples: Search= flowers or Search= black. Once you have the image you like (make sure it is something that you can easily make a blog header to match) right click on the image and save it to your computer. Tip: make sure that the image is at least 1024 x 768 pixels large or it will be too small for your background or will need to be stretched to fit.
  • Digital Scrapbook Paper- this is an awesome site which pulls up freebies daily. Have fun going through the different blogs and saving all of the free stuff you want! Try finding a large piece of scrapbook paper that you would like for your blog background and save it to your computer. Tip: make sure that the piece of paper is at least 1024 x 768 pixels large or it will be too small for your background or will need to be stretched to fit.
Step 2: Now that you have your background image, it is time to upload it to an online hosting website. I use ImageShack. This is a necessary step as you need a URL for your background image. Simply click on the browse button on ImageShack's website, find the image you saved for your background image and click upload. When it is finished, it will give you a URL that you need to save.

Step 3: Edit the codes of the template of your blog. It is accessible through dashboard >> layout >> edit HTML.

Find this in the code (ctrl f is an easy way):

body {
background: #ffffff;
margin: 0;

Change it to this:

body{
background:#fff url("direct URL of the image from ImageShack");
background-position: down-left;
background-attachment: fixed;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
margin: 0;

Step 4: Preview your template to make sure you like the way it looks and then click Save!

Step 5: Create personalized header to match background in image editing program. Depending on your blogger template the header will need to be resized. Check what size yours needs to be in
dashboard >> layout >> header. For this blog, my header needed to be approx. 880 pixels x 200 pixels.

Step 6: Personalize your blog even more with side bar widgets, color schemes, etc.

Wha-la! You have a beautiful blog that no one else has.
